Senior Software Engineer — Systems & Platforms 20 years building reliable software

Hi, I’m Juan.

I’m a senior software engineer who builds reliable systems and platforms — the kind that teams can ship on without drama. I care about measurement, delivery velocity, and boring‑in‑the‑best‑way operations.

Recently: I completed a Computer Science degree at WGU while working full‑time and building a side project.

About Me

I started coding as a kid and built my career through skill, persistence, and results. I’m happiest in high‑ownership environments where the goal is to ship, measure, and iterate.

I’m also interested in improving hiring for people Skilled Through Alternative Routes (STARs). Credentials can open doors, but the work is what matters — clarity, execution, and impact.

If you’re building something that needs a calm, systems‑minded engineer who can diagnose, simplify, and deliver, let’s talk.

Selected Work & Notes

  • MyCREBuddy — Founding Engineer
From zero to production: stood up the initial back‑end/services and the first customer‑facing web app; CI/CD, auth, and observability. Focus on reliability and fast iteration with a tiny team.
  • Home Assistant on Raspberry Pi — Z‑Wave–first Smart Home
Primary Z‑Wave network by design (keeps 2.4 GHz spectrum clear and avoids under‑meshed Zigbee). Non‑Z‑Wave devices are bridged to HomeKit for Siri control. Local‑first automations with presence logic and fail‑safe scenes; controller and network gear are on UPS for resilience during power events.
  • LinkedIn — Daily engineering notes
Short posts on systems thinking, measurement, and delivery throughput. Occasional threads on this velocity model and practical automation. Follow along for build notes and experiments.
